Don’t Displace Dove:
Seattle’s “eco-friendly” developer, Build Urban is seeking to build new efficiency units on north Beacon Hill. In order to do this, they will be demolishing the existing building and displacing the current tenants. One of the tenants is Esther “Little Dove” John, a long time environmental and racial justice leader in Seattle. Along with her neighbors, Dove will lose her long-time residence… unless we organize! Build Urban’s new development is not unique, but is part of a larger wave of development has continues displace working-class communities of color from Beacon Hill and the broader South End. Build Urban has consistently made units that are inaccessible and unaffordable to working-class families and communities of color. At Got Green, we know that the only housing that is truly environmentally-friendly is housing that is affordable, accessible, and rooted in community. We fight for rooted, resilient, and healthy communities, and we resist predatory development and the green-washing of gentrification.
Got Green is a People of Color-led environmental justice organization based in South Seattle. www.gotgreenseattle.org
